Abstract

We reviewed retrospectively 15 cases with testicular tumors in children during the period from August, 1980 to July, 1991 to July, 1991. There were II cases of yolk sac tumors, 3 of teratoma and one of teratocarcinoma. Serum Alpha-fetoprotein was
elevated in all cases with yolk sac components.
Three cases of teratoma and one case of teratocarcinoma treated with radical orchiectomy with close follow-up were free of disease for over 2 years.
Of 5 cases with yolk sac tumor in stage A treated with radical orchiectomy, 4 cases were free of disease for a mean of 38.8 months. But of 6 cases with yolk sac tumor in the advanced stage treated with chemotherapy, 2 cases survived over 2 years
but
died by 5 years. These poor outcomes may be resulted from advanced staged tumor in more than half of cases and inadequate chemotherapy.
The results suggest that yolk sac tumor in stage A needs close surveillance after orchectomy, but the tumor in advanced stage required more effective chemotherapy.
